Windows and DoorsBlock Frame WindowsThis method is used in situations where the original window frame is left intact. An example of this would be old wood double-hung windows that have frames that are still in good shape and windows in brick homes. The new windows are installed in much the same manner as the sash portions of the original windows. They sit inside the existing wood frames and are secured with stops and/or screws. They are then caulked and sealed. This method may also be used for technical or aesthetic reasons. There is no fin on windows installed in this manner. However, the existing frame ensures a weather-tight fit in the existing siding and also supports the new window properly. |
